Sample Collection procedure for DNA Test

Step 1: Label the paternity test sample collection envelopes.

Take out the envelope marked with the title of the first person to be collected (for example, “Alleged Father” or “Child”).

Fill out the envelope with the information about that tested party. Be sure to provide all the information requested on the sample collection envelope.

Step 2: Collect cheek cells using the swabs provided, and place the used swabs in the paper envelopes.

Eastern Biotech supplies a packet of 2 swabs for each person to be tested: 1 swabs should be used on the person’s left cheek, and 1 swabs should be used on the right cheek.

Follow these steps when swabbing each tested party:

  • Open the swab packet at the end opposite from the swabs’.
  • Remove one swab from the packet. Be careful not to touch the end of Brush.
  • Insert the swab into the person’s mouth, and rub it briskly against the inside of one cheek for 5-10 strokes. Rotate the swab while rubbing it back and forth and up and down. Do not rub the same spot over and over.
  • Place the used swab back into paper envelop.
  • Repeat the collection process with the remaining 1 swab.
  • When all 2 swabs have been collected and placed in the sample collection envelope, seal the envelope.

Step 3: Mail all the samples back to the lab or test center.

After all the tested parties have been collected, put their sample collection envelopes back in the bigger envelop.

Next, complete and sign the Client Information Form. This form is where you indicate how you would like to pay for the test and receive your results.

Place the kit and the Client Information Form inside the Reply envelope. Seal the envelope securely, and drop it in the mail.
